Cool FM

‘Cool FM’ was an extremely short-lived Dublin station with very unique circumstances

There are rather bizarre circumstances surrounding this station, if it can be considered as one. Hot Radio’s transmitter was stolen on Sunday May 21st 2000 . Later the perpetrator plugged the stolen equipment in and started broadcasting himself, boasting about what he’d done and using the name Tony Quinn.

The fun and games didn’t end there, The next evening, on a much stronger signal, ‘Tony’ identified his station as Cool FM: “Dublin’s newest dance station”.

Tuesday morning transmissions were traced to Terenure and the transmitter was recovered later that day.
