B96FM will be on air in the greater Dublin area for a week from 8am next Monday operating under temporary licence from the BCI. The station is run from the Ballyfermot College of Further Education and will broadcast on 96.0MHz FM with live programming between 8am & 8pm daily, and an automated service operating through the night.
Speaking to Radiowaves News, station manager Stephen Byrne said: “B96FM is a youth-aimed station with a fresh, funky attitude and will be run by the radio students here in the college. It will also be streamed through the web and will be very professional. We’ve put in a lot of work over the last six months and it’s great to see it’s all starting to come together. We’re expecting to get a really good response to the station from the local community of Ballyfermot and indeed the whole city.”
Cathal Funge, B96FM’s Head of Programming, is expecting a great reaction to the schedule: “Everyone in the class of 26 are putting input into the weeks programming and this is giving us a huge variety in our shows with a little something for everyone. There will be topics of local interest and student affairs mixed in with a great variety of music.”
Many of the students who will be working on B96FM are already doing some work in the industry in such stations as Q 102, Dublin City Anna Livia FM, and East Coast FM.
