Club FM were a Dublin dance pirate radio station which was on air from 1990-2000 on 106.4MHz.
Club FM launched in September 1990 from a garden shed based in Glenn O’Ceallaigh’s parent’s house in Blanchardstown, a suburban town in west Dublin.
The station operated on a part-time basis for two years before migrating to 24 hour a day broadcasting in 1992.
Club FM only covered the Blanchardstown area until they found a mountain site in 1994, which gave them coverage all over Dublin.
This gave the station two distinct histories. Until 1994 they operated as a hobbyist station, happy to be heard in their own locale. But when listeners could tune in from all over the city, it really took off.
They replaced the shed with a new studio built from scratch in the exact same location – the back garden in Blanchardstown. They stayed in this location for the full life of the station and they were never raided.
