DLR were a long-running Dublin pirate in the ’90s
Became: Hits 106
DLR started broadcasting in early 1991. It initially broadcast on weekends only using a very low-powered transmitter. Later in the year they had increased power substantially and were also broadcasting seven days a week. At the time they were the largest pirate in Dublin – commanding quite an audience, and they had some first rate shows.
The station had a name-change to Hits 106 but unfortunately, its original highly-acclaimed broadcasts were never matched in its later years.
ODTR activity forced the station off the air in 2001. At that point it was broadcasting on 106.1MHz to Dublin and on 107.1MHz to Wicklow.
