PULSE FM
MUSIC FOR THE MILLENIUM GENERATION

Pulse FM commenced broadcasting in March 1995 on 99.4MHz. It was operated and ran by Daragh O’Sullivan and Ronan Brady.
From humble garden-shed roots it went on to become one of the best-known and most talked about Dublin radio stations of the second half of the decade.
They moved to Belvedere House on Dublin’s northside and catered to Dublin’s youth, who couldn’t seem to get enough of them.
In order to satisfy the terms of a licence application, Pulse FM – on 103.2MHz – closed down at 7pm on June 30th 1999.

Taken from our Radio Retro section, this is the final hour of broadcast.

The application had Waterford station WLR FM amongst its major backers but was unsuccessful. Pulse FM, unhappy with the process, sought a judicial review but found the costs prohibitive.
“It should be a matter of public concern, in particular in the current climate, that a body, all of whose members are appointed by the politicians of the day, can decide who has a right to broadcast in this country without any obligations to state reasons for its decision,” Pulse FM said at the time.

Dated November 18th 1998 this is an airchecked recording (with a difference) of one of the station’s top shows, The Doghouse – the difference being that it’s on video, which also gives a little insight into how a show like this is put together.
