Radio Laxey was ran by Tony Boylan and first appeared from his home in Rathmines in south Dublin in the 1950s.
Tony had started The Colleen Home Service in 1944, which evolved in to Radio 200. It was Radio 200 which attracted unwanted attention from the authorities and led to Tony closing down – until he came back with Radio Laxey.
Laxey’s first incarnation didn’t last too long – Tony moved house to the north Dublin suburb of Ballymun where he started The Ballymun Home Service. However, Laxey did retrun with sporadic broadcasts in the ’70s.
