Coast 101.3FM was a temporarily-licensed Galway radio station which had a previous life as a pirate.
Coast Hot Hits broadcast from Eyre Square in Galway. It first appeared on 99.7MHz with test transmissions on July 10th 1987 as Coast 100 but had changed to Coast 103 just one week later.
It was launched by people who had been involved with WLS Music Radio, and had the same postal address as WLS in Prospect Hill.
Medium wave was added a few weeks later on 1566kHz.
The name changed to Coast Hot Hits when Stuart Clarke, Dave Shearer and Ger Sweeney left Hits 954 in Limerick to join Coast 103. The Hits 954 transmitter was then used to relay the station to Limerick.
The station ceased broadcasting in December 1988 to comply with new legislation.
They returned to air as Coast 101.3FM under temporary licences from the BCI – in summer 2005 and summer 2006.
