RADIO RENMORE
Radio Renmore was a low-powered pirate station which launched in Galway in 1983. It was set up by three bored schoolboys with nothing to do for the school summer holidays.
Those originally involved were Gary Hardiman, Brendan Mee and Tom Breen. It ran for the month of August from a converted garage at the side of Brendan Mee’s house in Dún na Mara Drive utilising a transmitter belonging to Tom Breen.
Radio Renmore had plans to go on AM but that never happened.
It returned for the Christmas school holidays in 1983.
Brian Walsh got involved for the 1984 summer school holidays and with a slight name-change, Renmore Local Radio ran from his house, situated right beside Lough Atailia. This allowed the signal to bounce towards Salthill and partly around the city.
The station came back on air as Radio Snowflake for the 1984 festive season and once that run had finished the station never returned.
