WKRC
WKRC broadcast on medium wave from a caravan located in a field outside Newbridge, Co Kildare. The letters, lifted from an American jingle, meant absolutely nothing to anybody in Kildare – chosen at a time when US-style radio names were the norm. That’s according to Pat O’Mahony who worked there. Others claim that the letters meant Wonderful Kildare Radio Club. As is so often the case with these things both are probably true.
Early jocks with the station were Pat O’Mahony and Ray D’Arcy.
WKRC closed in early 1982.
