RADIO CAROLINE NORTH
Radio Caroline North was the result of a name change for Radio 99, which was a pirate station that launched in April 1971 on 199m. Broadcasting from just inside the Co Fermanagh border, Radio 99 was a non-political pirate playing country & western music each Saturday & Sunday night.
After just a few weeks on air the station was forced to close by Loyalist paramilitaties but it relocated to the other side of the border to Co Monaghan.
The station lasted four years, with the name change to Radio Caroline North, but a Garda raid closed it down in November 1975.
