Zee 103

Zee 103, Omeath. The 1980s pirate radio station.

Zee 103 broadcast from Omeath, Co Louth in the 1980s. The station took 16 months in planning to arrive at its launch date of December 11th 1986. This followed a series of test transmissions which started in October.

Broadcasting from Ardaghy House, close to the Northern Irish border, Zee 103 was available on 103.25MHz FM.

An Armagh PO Box address was used during the test broadcasts but this had reverted to the Ardaghy House, Co Louth address when the station had launched.

The station played a wide variety of musical genres which were supplemented by hourly news bulletins.

Zee 103 closed on December 31st 1988 to comply with new legislation outlawing pirates.

It returned in very early January 1989, but closed again after the first raid on Radio Dublin.
