Athlone Calling is an Athlone Community Radio documentary which goes back in time to tell the history of the Athlone transmitter – the first high-power transmitting station in Ireland which was officially opened by An Taoiseach Éamon de Valera in 1933.

Gearoid O’Brien’s script is narrated by Phillip Gillen with contributions from Jim Kearns, Tommy Mollen, Martin Hanley, Margaret Franklin, Geoffrey Foy, Carmel Feeney, Alan Shaw, Ciaran Mollooly and St Mary’s Active Age Group.
