WXTC launched tonight on 91.6MHz in Dublin. The station, who have been supplying radio on demand over the internet for the past few months, plan to run live programming in the evenings on Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays and all day at weekends. Work is continuing on their studio and if all goes to plan live broadcasts will commence on Sunday morning at 9am.

Gem 88FM – on 88.1MHz – were on a blank carrier for a short period tonight.

WXTC remembers
WXTC have been marking the 20th anniversary of the Stardust tragedy by playing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ at the top of every hour.
In the early hours of Valentine’s Day 1981 a fire engulfed the Stardust nightclub in north Dublin leaving 48 dead and many maimed or injured.
The tragedy shocked the nation and the wounds are still raw to this day.
At the time, RTÉ Radio 2 (now 2FM) played ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon non-stop overnight even though the station usually finished broadcasting each night at 1.50am.
