Westside Radio was a 1980s Dublin pirate station which broadcast on 1035kHz / 290metres.
Previously known as Double R Radio, they changed name to Westside Radio early in 1982. At this time they also moved to new studios which were based in a room above the Brown Derby pub on James Street in Dublin 8. They were forced to leave there due to allegations of looting against a member of the station’s crew. Shortly afterwards -March 1983 – a fire destroyed the building but, although suspected, no connection to the station was established.
The station relocated to just outside Mulhuddart village in a room above Dollys Lounge Pub on the back road behind Corduff heading to the Kilbride Road. Not long afterwards they set up in a caravan in the car park.
Live programming was usually from 7am to midnight, sometimes running until 3am.
The station ceased as a precaution on the afternoon of Sunday, May 22nd 1983. This followed the raids on Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio a few days earlier. They had received a tip-off from within the P&T that more stations were going to be hit on Monday morning.
They returned within days but by July 1983 they had folded as the pub was being sold.
Telephone number was 212105.
