RADIO WEST

Radio West was the original name for Galway Bay FM. The station launched on August 18th 1989.

Jimmy Smith of Treble TR, the Dublin pirate radio station which had closed at the end of 1988, was hired to set up Radio West. Due to a delay in acquiring the purchased studio equipment, Radio West went on air through a 250 Watt CTE transmitter with the old TTTR studio brought over from Dublin.
