Telstar Community Radio

Telstar Community Radio was an 80s station which broadcast from Blackrock in Dundalk, Co Louth.

It launched in 1981 on 1197kHz and lasted until the final day of 1988, when legislation forced unlicensed stations off the air.

The station hit major problems at the end of 1981, just a week before Christmas, when it was forced to close by order of the High Court which restrained the station from using the land surrounding the house at Sea View House. The issue was that there was no planning permission for the station’s 100ft mast.
